The Ten Fetters

saṃyojanaMười kiết sử
In brief

The Ten Fetters (saṃyojana) are ten deep habits of mind — like self-centered views, doubt, craving, ill-will, conceit, and ignorance — that bind us to the endless round of stress and rebirth. They matter because the Buddhist path is measured by how many of them we've loosened: as each fetter falls away, the heart grows freer and more at peace, all the way to full awakening. Think of them as the knots still tying a boat to the dock; spiritual progress is patiently untying them one by one until you can finally sail free.
