Craving
taṇhāÁi
In brief
Craving (taṇhā) is the deep thirst or wanting that pulls us toward pleasant experiences, away from unpleasant ones, and toward being or not being a certain way. The Buddha pointed to it as the main root of suffering, because this restless grasping keeps us chasing what can never fully satisfy. You can notice it in small everyday moments — the urge to check your phone again, to have one more bite, or to make a feeling go away — each a quiet tug of "I want this to be different."
