Calm

samathaChỉ (Tĩnh)
In brief

Calm (samatha) is the meditation of settling the mind — quieting the restless mental chatter so that attention can rest gently on a single thing, like the breath, until the mind grows still and steady. It matters because a settled mind is clearer and more peaceful, and this steadiness becomes the firm ground from which deeper insight can grow. You already taste it in small moments: the ease you feel when you stop rushing, take a slow breath, and let your shoulders soften.
