🧠 Mind & Matter
Matter / Form
rūpaSắc
In brief
Rūpa is the physical, material side of experience — the body and everything we sense as solid, liquid, warmth, or movement, the "matter" that pairs with mind to make up a living being. The Buddha taught it as one of the five aggregates we mistake for a lasting self, so noticing how the body constantly changes is a doorway to seeing that nothing here can be permanently held. A simple touchstone: feel the warmth of your hands or the weight of your feet on the floor — that felt, changing physicality is rūpa.
