The Middle Way

majjhimā paṭipadāTrung Đạo
In brief

The Middle Way is the balanced path the Buddha taught after his own awakening — avoiding both harsh self-denial and chasing after pleasure, since neither leads to lasting peace. It matters because it's the practical heart of the whole path: in everyday terms, it's like eating enough to be nourished without overindulging, caring for the body and mind so they can settle and see clearly. In its fuller meaning, this balanced path is the Noble Eightfold Path — wise understanding, intention, speech, action, livelihood, effort, mindfulness, and concentration.
