The Three Jewels

tiratanaTam Bảo
In brief

The Three Jewels are the three things a Buddhist turns to for guidance and refuge: the Buddha (the awakened teacher), the Dhamma (his teaching and the truth it points to), and the Saṅgha (the community of those who practice, especially those far along the path). Taking refuge in them is the simple, heartfelt act that marks someone as a follower of this path, a way of saying "these are what I trust to lead me toward freedom from suffering." In daily life it can be as ordinary as pausing before practice to recall them, a quiet reminder of who is teaching you, what you are learning, and who is walking alongside you.
