🌌 Cosmos & Rebirth
The Thirty-One Planes
bhūmiBa mươi mốt cõi
In brief
In early Buddhist cosmology, the universe holds thirty-one "planes" of existence (bhūmi) — realms where beings can be reborn, ranging from states of intense suffering up through the human and heavenly worlds to the most refined, subtle dimensions of consciousness. Where you land isn't decided by a judge but by the quality of your own actions (kamma), and no plane lasts forever: even a long, blissful heavenly life eventually ends in rebirth elsewhere. It's a map that puts our single human lifetime in perspective — a rare and precious window for practice — and points to liberation as the way out of the whole wandering cycle.
