Emptiness

suññatāTánh không
In brief

Emptiness (suññatā) is the recognition that nothing we experience contains a fixed, independent self or essence — everything arises from conditions and is therefore changing and not truly "mine" or "me." In the early teaching it points especially to seeing the world, body, and mind as empty of a permanent self, which loosens our grip and brings a deep, peaceful freedom. Like a clay pot that is just a temporary shape of clay with no separate "pot-essence" inside, our sense of a solid "I" is a passing pattern of conditions rather than a thing we possess.
