We tend to think of perception as a single event: 'I saw the apple.' The Abhidhamma reveals it is nothing of the kind. A single glance is a whole assembly line of distinct mind-moments, each doing one small job and handing off to the next — and the smooth, unified 'I saw' is an illusion stitched together afterward. Mind is a process, not a thing.
